I’ve known Jim Lareau for a number of years as a member of the APA of West Michigan pool league. When I found out he was becoming certified as an instructor, I approached him about working with the kids in our local
Juniors division.
The patience he shows with our kids, along with his calm, easy-going demeanor, has made him a perfect fit. His ability to teach those with absolutely no experience as well our higher skill players makes him an invaluable asset to
our program.
I highly recommend him to anyone seeking instruction no matter their level of ability.

I’ve been playing pool for over 20 years and recently I had the desire to learn the fundamentals and take my game to the next level. I struggled with popping up on shots.
Break Shot Billiards has helped me recognize, correct and minimize my flaws. Jim Lareau instructs in a way that is simple to understand and implement.

I was searching for help to get past mediocre and learn new techniques. Jim has helped me in several areas. Developing a massive break shot, cue ball control, and improved stroke fundamentals.

Jim is an awesome instructor. He successfully instructs based on the student’s needs. After taking a few lessons my skill level was raised by the American Pool Players Association.
In addition, I was number one out of 40 players in points accumulated. I also achieved the most valuable player award (MVP). I highly recommend Jim as an instructor which will definitely increase you pool playing skills.

Jim thanks so much for helping me with my pool game. It has improved my technique and therefore my “confidence”. Can’t wait to take more advanced lessons!

I joined the APA in Fall of 2017. I enjoyed pool but never new the rules or played in organized league. Jim has taught me how to play 8 Ball. Develop solid fundamentals, learn key shots and think strategically.
A cue stroke is a lot like a golf swing. There are basic fundamentals you must know, and execute consistently to improve your game and confidence level.
Jim is an excellent teacher, coach and friend.
When my game get out of sync, or I want to learn a new shot or techniques,
he's always there to get things
back on track.

Billiards is a game that I absolutely love, I’ve been playing for over 15 years and thought I was a pretty decent player, but needed help. Going back to the fundamentals of the game Jim has helped me rebalance my stroke, mental game, focus and confidence! As well as some awesome shots (rock-a-Billy). Jim breaks down all these aspects of the game in a new yet familiar way for all types off players whether your just picking up a cue or been playing for years Jim’s your guy!

A competent teacher, no matter what the discipline, can save his student untold hours of trial and error and what at times seems like a lifetime of frustration. Back to basics is always a good place to begin and basics is where I began with Jim. He has the tools and the experience needed to correct a pool player’s mechanics, the address, the stance, the straightness of the stroke, the finish. He loves the games and delights in his students’ successes. Break Shot Billiards is a total game changer … it changed mine for sure.

I have played pool on and off for many years. In retirement I decided that I wanted to become more proficient at the game. I read some books on Pool and watched some DVD’s. Those helped but there is nothing like having someone with real teaching ability look at your game and correct your deficiencies. For me that individual was Jim. He is an excellent teacher who can absolutely improve your skill level.

I've had the privilege of knowing Jim for years. I reached out for lessons as I was interested in enhancing my performance in pool league to move up in skill level. Jim was able to work with my schedule and cater the lessons to exactly what I needed help with. Whether it was minor adjustments to my stance or advanced skills in recognizing where the cue ball would end up after my shot, Jim taught me how to improve in these areas and all skillets in between. His attention to detail and dedication to making you more confident and skilled cannot be compared to anyone, and I am grateful to continue to learn from him through these lessons!

So I have taken everything Jim has taught me and it's helping. I finally have a pause after taking my cue back. Its even becoming natural. Feels great!!!!! Going to Vegas for a tournament at the end of February.

“I found it difficult to learn the game properly with so many different people offering advice based on their formed habits. When I went to Jim, it was easy to focus on the fundamentals with no distractions and know for certain I was getting the proper training. It helped me lay the foundation to steadily grow my game. Jim is the best, I’d highly recommend Breakshot Billiards to anyone ready to take their skills to the next level!”

I couldn’t be more pleased with your teaching skills. The session is terrific! You follow a plan – provide great feedback to the student – emphasize key points and most of all, you work with the student to correct problems. It’s not just a show and tell like I’ve seen other instructors do. Good job! I’ve also been seeing feedback from your students – they too are happy with your instruction.

Going to Break Shot Billiards and getting instructions from Jim really have opened up my eyes to the beauty of this game. I was shown and reminded of how important having good, and solid fundamentals are. Jim takes the time to watch how you do, what you, ask you your thoughts as to why you do what you do. Then he guides you on how to correct things. I especially love how he does the complete analysis of where you are initially, gives you a notebook, and steers you in the direction of achieving your goals in this beautiful world of pool. I'm still in the infancy of my journey, but because of Jim's time and tutoring, I know I have a better fundamental understanding, a better mental understanding, a better stroke, and more confidence when I play. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Jim Lareau and Break Shot Billiards to anyone that is wanting to get their game started on a good, solid path, or even a multi year veteran of the game who maybe a little stuck in their advancement.

Bottom line: I give Jim Lareau my highest rating and approval.
Long answer: When teaching at the university, one of my punishments was to hire new professors for first year classes. I learned the hard way who could teach and who could not. Finding quality teachers was a real challenge. Many knew the material in every detail, but could not communicate it. When I decided to improve my pool game and skills in teaching the game, I wanted the best, so I selected Jim. He truly can teach, has an excellent grasp of the game, and is a good guy to be around. I believe you will be happy with his services and advice. I am!

When I first met Jim Lareau he was a PBIA Recognized Instructor. He called me and wanted to know if I can upgrade him to a PBIA Certified Instructor. So we set up the dates and time. Right away I noticed he needed some extra work and he was willing to work. Jim worked very hard and did everything I asked him to do. In doing so I think Jim will be very good Certified Instructor. He has the knowledge and demeanor to work all students! Good luck Jim and welcome to the PBIA!

I have enjoyed the lessons I have taken with Jim. He takes the time and uses tools to systematically evaluate what your skills are and gives you guidance on what to work on to help improve your game. After only a few lessons, he helped me become a more consistent shot, which allowed me to feel more comfortable in my abilities. These lessons were helpful last year especially as I was able to go to APA singles event in Vegas for the 9-Ball Shootout. I would highly recommend his services no matter if you’re just starting out, or even if you are a seasoned player who wants to work on specific things.

A few years ago I had the pleasure of meeting Jim Lareau. In the years that I've known him I've witnessed his passion for teaching in both junior leagues and in coaching my husband and me. He can teach any skill level, so if you're just starting out or you are a pro there’s always room for improvement. Break Shot Billiards is a great place to get all the tools and skills you need to be the best pool player you can be.
